Postdoctoral Position- Neural Circuitry of Movement Initiation
SUNY Downstate, Physiology and Pharmacology, Ramirez Lab, New York, New York, us, 10261
A postdoctoral position is available in Alexandro Ramirez’s lab at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences Center in Brooklyn, NY. Our lab uses the larval zebrafish as a model organism to study neural circuits underlying flexible behavior and movement initiation. The lab uses in‑vivo two‑photon microscopy, optogenetics, and techniques from computational neuroscience to investigate how brain‑wide, neural networks determine when to move the eyes and how this decision is influenced by internal state.
We are looking for a motivated scientist excited to plan and conduct experiments that uncover circuit principles underlying movement initiation and decision‑making. You will have the opportunity to work with state‑of‑the‑art methods in a collaborative and growing research environment. We invite applications for a one‑year, full‑time position, with the possibility of renewal. Postdoctoral fellow salary and benefit will be set based on experience and qualification according to NIH guidelines.
Qualifications (required)
PhD (or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline. Experience in systems neuroscience and analysis of calcium imaging or electrophysiology data.
Qualifications (desired)
Hands‑on experience in at least two of the following areas: Two‑photon microscopy, Programming (Matlab, Python or C++), Electrophysiology quantitative analysis of behavior, Mathematical modeling, “Connectomics”, Zebrafish genetics, building/designing experimental rigs or tools
To Apply Send a cover letter that summarizes your relevant experience and skills along with your curriculum vitae to alexandro.ramirez@downstate.edu. Informal inquires are welcome. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
