Citarella - The Ultimate Gourmet Market provided pay range: $24.00/hr – $27.00/hr.
Role Overview
As the Fish & Seafood Department Manager, you are a key player in overseeing and managing all aspects of the fish department including department profitability, displays, inventory control, and leading the team to drive business and sales. Our guest is the heart of our business. You will provide every guest with an exceptional shopping experience, listen and respond to their needs, and be the subject‑matter expert of your department. All Fish & Seafood Department Managers must have vast seafood knowledge, hospitality skills, display positive energy, reliability, basic math skills, and excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities & Duties
Model and deliver exceptional guest service and ensure guest needs are met in a timely fashion.
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the seafood department.
Receive merchandise, break down pallets, manage vendor invoices/picklists, and ensure product meets/exceeds Citarella standards.
Manage department profitability, merchandising, guest service, appearance, and team‑member supervision.
Write department schedules, approve PTO, maintain timecards, and manage labor.
Supervise team members ensuring service standards are always met.
Apply advanced knife skills.
Prepare, package, weigh, and price seafood department products for sale.
Trim and bone fish, crack shellfish upon request.
Maintain inventory levels and collaborate with the buyer for proper product assortment, merchandising, ordering, and inventory control.
Monitor quality, freshness, and enforce product rotation; adhere to all DOH, DOA, and OSHA standards.
Keep the department cleaned and maintained throughout all shifts, including seafood display, lobster tank, cooler, and work areas.
Maintain accurate department signage and pricing.
Support team members on opening and closing procedures.
Assist store leadership in selecting, training, developing, and mentoring new and existing team members.
Motivate and provide feedback to cultivate and retain team members.
Write semi‑annual/annual performance reviews.
Adhere to all assigned duties by the management team.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience managing a seafood department in a grocery store environment.
Flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to meet physical requirements—standing, kneeling, stooping, using stairs, lifting, pushing, pulling items up to 75 pounds.
Vast knowledge of handling perishable items and product rotation.
Food safety and sanitation knowledge.
Initiative, self‑motivation, and ability to work with limited supervision.
Ability to hire, train, inspire, and develop a team.
Team builder and brand ambassador.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Analytical thinking and proficiency in math.
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
