What you would do:
Draft correspondence including pleadings, discovery, motions, orders, and notices.
Maintain files from the court dockets in iManage
File pleadings with courts through ECF
Schedule and maintain case calendars
Mentor and train paralegals, provide guidance, and act as a resource to new associates
Participate in administrative staff meetings and other meetings as necessary
Other duties as assigned
Transactional/Real Estate Duties:
Order and review title searches and UCC searches
Assist in all matters related to closings including preparing closing checklist, obtaining statements and affidavits, reading and reviewing surveys, preparing commitments/policies, drafting resolutions and operating agreements, obtaining zoning letters, tax receipts, organizing closing documents and binders and distributing to appropriate parties, and other matters related to closings.
Coordinate and/or attend closings and work with all parties - buyer/seller, title companies, attorneys, lenders, etc.
Prepare and record terminations of lien documents
Corporate Duties:
Work with clients and draft all probate documents to open estate, such as Petition to Admit Will to Probate, etc.
Monitor probate claims
Assist attorneys on Notice of Creditors, bequests, and settling of all property in the estate
Assist attorneys on special projects such as accountings, inventories, transferring interests of oil, gas, and stocks, and preparing Quickclaim deeds
Draft correspondence including bankruptcy pleadings, motions and orders for extension, proofs of claim, and other related documents
Monitor probate claims and bankruptcy cases
Public Finance Duties:
Assist attorneys whose practice relates to the issuance of bonds, with duties varying depending on whether the firm acts as a bond counsel, underwriter's counsel, special tax counsel, disclosure counsel, etc.
What you bring:
Minimum 2 years of paralegal experience required
Paralegal certificate or undergraduate degree
Knowledge of CM/ECF filings and procedures in specified business areas (including bankruptcy, real estate contracts, closings, etc.)
A strong understanding of client industry
Ability to anticipate attorney needs and exercise sound judgment when necessary
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Experience capturing and recording billable time
High degree of detail and client focus
Experience reviewing and summarizing transactional/real estate, bankruptcy, and corporate law records
Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team
Drive and personal initiative
