Senior Trusts & Estates Attorney - California-Barred (Part-Time)(Hybrid or Remote)
Latitude has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Senior Trusts & Estates Attorney to join a boutique law firm in the Oakland/Bay Area. The ideal candidate will be California-barred and have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in trust administration, estate planning, and probate proceedings. This temp‑permanent role requires deep knowledge of California law and the ability to work with a diverse client base with complex estate matters.
While preference is given to candidates located in the Oakland/Bay Area who can work in‑office on a hybrid basis, consideration will be given to exceptional remote candidates who meet all other qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal counsel and strategic advice on a wide range of trust and estate matters
Draft and implement estate planning documents including wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and advanced healthcare directives
Guide clients through the trust administration and probate processes, including court filings and related compliance matters
Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda on relevant estate and tax planning issues
Collaborate with fiduciaries, financial advisors, tax professionals, and other counsel as needed
Attend and represent clients at court hearings related to trust and estate matters
Stay current on evolving estate and tax law developments relevant to California
Maintain strong client relationships and provide high‑touch, detail‑oriented legal services
Requirements
Located in or near the Bay Area, with availability to work in a hybrid capacity (exceptional remote candidates will be considered)
Active bar membership in California (required)
7+ years of experience in trust administration, estate planning, and probate law
Extensive knowledge of California probate and trust law and/or community property law
J.D. from an accredited law school and excellent academic credentials
Proven ability to manage a complex caseload independently
Excellent drafting, legal research, and client counseling skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Position Details
Type of Role: Engagement (Temp‑Permanent)
Schedule: Part‑Time (20–30+ hours per week)
Location: Hybrid in Oakland/Bay Area or Remote
Compensation & Benefits
The annualized pay for this position ranges from $160,000 to $230,000 when calculated on a full‑time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including but not limited to work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, and market supply/demand.
Benefits: All Latitude attorneys and other legal professionals working on contract engagements receive complimentary professional liability insurance coverage. Those working 20+ hours per week are eligible for full benefits, including group medical, dental, vision, life insurance, LTD, AD&D, and a 401(k) plan. Latitude attorneys also receive a CLE and Professional Expense stipend.
