Tesla
Sr. SoC Prototyping Engineer, AI Hardware
Join Tesla as a Senior SoC Prototyping Engineer in our AI Hardware team. The role focuses on delivering prototypes of custom SoCs for early software development, architecting, building, and debugging prototyping environments using Synopsys HAPS, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to develop innovative hardware solutions.
We are open to hiring in Austin, TX; Palo Alto, CA.
What To Expect As a key member of the Design Verification team, you will architect and debug prototyping environments, deliver SoC‑level prototypes, and collaborate with software and hardware teams to build scalable AI hardware solutions.
What You'll Do
Deliver SoC‑level prototyping platforms using Synopsys HAPS for software development
Prepare SoC RTL and constraints for prototyping
Collaborate with software teams to architect effective SoC prototyping solutions
Perform partitioning, clock network design, and timing closure of SoC designs using the Synopsys HAPS toolchain
Write bring‑up tests and debug to validate the platform
Debug issues reported by software teams using CPU trace and probe debugging techniques
Communicate and collaborate with team members across multiple disciplines
What You'll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience mapping complex SoC designs into multi‑FPGA prototyping platforms (e.g., HAPS, Protium, or similar FPGA systems)
Strong expertise in FPGA model development across the full FPGA development cycle (Front‑end and Back‑end) using tools like Synopsys Protocompiler and Xilinx Vivado
Solid understanding of emulation, prototyping, and silicon verification, including test plan development and execution
Experience with in‑circuit emulation and FPGA fast prototyping
Expertise in industry‑standard interfaces and bus protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, AXI, APB)
Nice to have: experience with ARM‑based SoCs, familiarity with standards‑based interfaces (e.g., Ethernet, PCIe, LPDDR, MIPI‑CSI, USB), proficiency in debugging system‑level issues across hardware and software, strong programming skills in scripting languages like Python and TCL, and knowledge of basic embedded software and ARM assembly code
Benefits
Aetna PPO and HSA plans – 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction
