Managing Director, Business Valuation - Intangible Assets
Job Summary: The Valuation & Capital Markets Analytics Managing Director is responsible for leading, executing, and delivering challenging valuation engagements by participating in all aspects of projects, from initial proposal preparation through project completion. In this role, the Managing Director is actively engaged in the management of business valuation assignments and staff development, and assists with business development activities and appraisal reviews.
Responsibilities
Executes office business development plan in conjunction with the Valuation leader
Builds relationships with key executives and stakeholders to grow office business lines and industries
Coordinates with Alliance and International firms on opportunities as they arise
Contributes business development thought leadership, tools, and resources to the national platform
Ensures Client Project Delivery, including:
Performing related company, industry and economic research
Analyzing client financial statements
Constructing financial models
Assessing operational profitability and financial conditions
Developing and reviewing cash flow forecasts
Performing benchmark analysis
Documenting and maintaining all aspects of work product
Composing narrative reports to support valuation analyses
Preparing exhibits and memos illustrating complex issues
Ensuring quality controls are adhered to across work products
Participating in client meetings
Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervises day‑to‑day workload of Valuation and Business Analytics (VBA) staff on assigned engagements and reviews work product
Ensures VBA staff are trained on all relevant valuation databases and models
Evaluates staff performance and assists in development of goals to enhance professional development
Delivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations
Acts as Career Advisor to VBA staff, as appropriate
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other relevant field (required)
Master’s in Business Administration (preferred)
Experience
10+ years of business valuation experience at a Big 4 firm or a national role at a small‑to‑mid‑size firm (required)
Significant experience in business valuation and intangible assets (required)
Prior experience in financial reporting valuation and appraisal review (required)
License / Certifications
CPA, CFA, AM, ASA or other valuation industry credentials (preferred)
Software Proficiency
Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Capital IQ and Bloomberg (preferred)

Superior oral and written communication skills
Superior analytical and research skills
Solid organizational skills with focus on deadlines and detail
Ability to multi‑task independently or in group environments
Proven ability to work in deadline‑driven, multi‑project settings
Capability to manage a team of valuation professionals and delegate assignments
Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel
Ability to encourage a team environment and contribute to professional development of staff
Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on engagements
Ability to interact with professionals at all levels
Intermittent travel within the U.S. and internationally (required)
Salary National Range: $250,000 - $350,000 Maryland Range: $250,000 - $350,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $250,000 - $350,000
