The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) offers advanced outpatient surgery allowing patients to return home soon after their procedures without overnight stays. This position is part of the Marymount ASC, working with Cleveland Clinic Sport Health Medicine/Orthopedic and Plastics teams. We support the mission of caring for life, engage in research activities and promote education for our caregivers.

Surgical Technologists, sometimes called “scrub techs,” assist with procedures under the supervision of surgeons and RNs, helping ensure quality patient care before, during, and after the operative procedure. In this role you will perform tasks such as checking supplies and equipment, setting up sterile tables, passing instruments to the surgeon, and sterilizing instruments after procedures. This position offers a unique way to gain hands‑on experience in an operative environment while making a lasting difference in the lives of patients and caregivers every day.

Working Hours A caregiver in this position works days between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with the ability to float to Marymount Hospital.

Responsibilities

Perform scrub functions and assist in circulating functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

Set up the sterile table and ensure appropriate supplies, drugs, and equipment are available.

Assist RN in counting all sponges, instruments, etc. at appropriate times during surgery.

Assist in gowning and gloving surgical team members and draping patients.

Ensure aseptic condition is maintained by the scrubbed surgical team through the procedure.

Participate in the intraoperative “timeout.”

Collect, identify and label specimens removed during surgical procedures and give specimens to circulator for disposition.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a Surgical Technology Program accredited through CCAAHEP or ABHES, or a Certification as a Surgical Technologist (TS‑C or CST), or completion of a military Surgical Technology Program.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications

Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited Surgical Technology Program.

Orthopaedic experience.

Physical Requirements

Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.

Standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Occasional lifting and carrying items up to 25 lb and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts up to 75 lb.

Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.

Work under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.

Medium Work: exerts 20 to 50 lb of force occasionally, 10 to 25 lb frequently, or greater than 10 lb constantly to move objects.

Physical demands are in excess of those for light work.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
