Purchasing Agent

We are currently seeking the right individual to fill an immediate need for a
Purchasing Agent . In this role, you will support our blended branch network in the West, purchasing products to ensure inventory service level goals are met, with a primary focus on replenishment from our distribution centers. If you excel in customer service, critical thinking, and can juggle multiple urgent requests, this is a great opportunity to grow with an industry leader.
Locations This hybrid role is open to locations across the country with our primary office in Portland, Oregon. Candidates should live within easy commuting distance of any Ferguson Branch location. The schedule follows Ferguson Flex: 3 days in office / 2 days remote.
Responsibilities
Generation of purchase orders for a specific geographic territory in the West.
Primary focus on branch replenishment from our distribution center network.
Work closely with branch leadership to understand local market needs and address purchasing questions/issues.
Provide purchasing guidance to branches to ensure customer service expectations are met and maximize profitability.
Manage branch quotations/contracts to ensure proper pricing and maximize profitability.
Expedite purchase orders to meet customer needs.
Aid in resolving payable discrepancies.
Work within a team setting, managing a high volume of email requests via Outlook.
Identify low-cost freight‑saving options.
Manage file maintenance for products bought from vendors, including pricing.
Manage system settings governing buy quantities and inventory levels to achieve company service goals.
Contact vendors and suppliers to maintain key relationships.
Provide direction and guidance to less experienced team members.
Perform all work in accordance with established safety standards and policies, ensuring the safety of the associate and others.
Display high levels of customer service in collaboration with internal customers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and related experience (preferred).
Prior knowledge of construction industry products, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or appliances (helpful).
Prior purchasing or buying experience, especially supporting a region or multiple stores (huge plus).
Strong computer proficiency including use of Microsoft applications and navigating multiple software systems (required).
Intermediate proficiency with Excel (v‑lookups, CONCATENATE, pivot tables) – a plus.
Experience with Oracle, SAP, Logility or similar purchasing software – a plus.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills and a team‑centric mentality.
Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and multitask, juggling multiple urgent requests.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
Hybrid Worker Requirements
Hybrid candidates should be aware that our main office is in the Western time zone and may require schedule flexibility for onboarding and training.
The candidate must be flexible to work in the time zone based on the territory assigned.
Hybrid candidates must have a high‑speed internet connection.
Future in‑office requirements are TBD and subject to change.
Pay Range $3,382.20 – $7,461.30 per month (salaried roles). This role is bonus or incentive plan eligible.
