Principal Network Reliability Engineer – Circuit Ops
The Oracle Cloud Network Reliability Engineering team is looking for senior networking engineers to join the team. This is a hybrid position, requiring the ability to be in the office several days per week. Office locations include Santa Clara, Seattle, Austin, Nashville, and Broomfield.
In this role you will work with the Network Reliability Engineering (NRE) team for the Circuit Ops GNOC, managing our global backbone, internet, and DWDM. You will have authority for end‑to‑end performance and operability, partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture, articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas, and guide development teams to engineer and add premier capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. You will demonstrate a clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles, act as the ultimate escalation point for complex or critical issues that have not yet been documented as SOPs, and utilize a deep understanding of service topology and dependencies to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations.
Responsibilities
5+ years of experience in network and software development
Proficiency with Java, Python, and C++ and object‑oriented programming
Proficiency with network technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.)
Excellent knowledge of basic data structures, search/sort algorithms
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
Global backbone and internet provider experience
Experience troubleshooting and escalating third‑party provider problems
MPLS/RSVP‑TE Backbone experience
Internet connectivity, transit, peering, and IX experience
Deep BGP expertise
Experience being the last tier of support
Managing ongoing network availability projects
Working with (or building) automation & tools to help assist network availability
Some on‑call rotation will be required
Qualifications
Proficiency with Java, Python, and C++
Experience with network technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, etc.)
Strong understanding of basic data structures and algorithms
Effective communication skills
Preferred Experience
Knowledge of cloud computing and networking technologies
Experience developing service‑oriented systems, REST, and python
Experience developing network automation or device management solutions
Experience in a network support role
Experience working in a large ISP or cloud provider environment
Experience with network modeling and programming – YANG, OpenConfig, NETCONF
Experience with Jira, Confluence, BitBucket
Knowledge of Scrum & Agile Methodologies
Salary & Benefits US: Hiring Range in USD from: $86,400 – $199,500 per year. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
