Position Summary
The Tribal Attorney General shall be hired by Eastern Shoshone General Council. The AG will be responsible for legally protecting Tribal Assets, defending the Shoshone 1863 & 1868 Treaties, and defending the integrity of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. The AG Tribal Lawyer shall be knowledgeable of Shoshone culture, customs, resources, and traditions and/or a willingness to learn. Tribal Lawyer AG will live and operate on the Wind River Indian Reservation; and available for legal advice and counsel to the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, in all matters at issue before federal, state, and tribal courts. Duties and Responsibilities
Meet and greet tribal members to understand the community, Shoshone Business Council, Tribal Departments and Enterprises. AG Tribal Lawyer is to live at Fort Washakie. Attend Shoshone General Council sessions to provide legal advice and counsel on a variety of legal matters; and give reports. Review contract applications and other legal documents, proposed legislation prior to signing and submission of documents. Collaborate with assistant legal Attorney on legal matters. Review Shoshone General Resolutions/Laws to ensure Resolutions/Laws are followed. Policies and procedures, contracts and agreements on behalf of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, its depositions. Research and analyze tribal, federal, state legislation, regulations, and case law; provide written legal opinions and analyze developments in Indian Law. Attend tribal council sessions and other meetings. Represent tribe in statewide and national legal forums. Required knowledge, skills and abilities include knowledge of Shoshone culture, customs, resources, and traditions, and/or a willingness to learn. Willingness to live and reside on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Qualifications
EDUCATION-CERTIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Juris Doctorate from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association. 4-10 years legal experience. Knowledge of Indian Federal Law. Willingness to learn Shoshone History and culture. Application Requirements
