Job Summary
Alternate Municipal Prosecutor will act on behalf of the municipality when the primary Municipal Prosecutor is unavailable or has a conflict of interest. The role includes representing the municipality in municipal court proceedings (traffic and ordinance violations, DWI, disorderly persons, etc.), preparing cases for trial, managing discovery, drafting motions, negotiating pleas, and appearing at hearings and bench or jury trials as needed. The incumbent will collaborate with law enforcement, court personnel and municipal staff to ensure effective prosecution of municipal ordinance violations and uphold the municipality’s legal interests. Hourly Rate: $75/hour.
Qualifications
Admission to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an attorney, including at least two (2) years practice in municipal court either as a prosecutor or defense attorney.
Demonstrated knowledge of New Jersey municipal court procedures, motor vehicle statutes, municipal ordinances, discovery obligations and courtroom practices.
Excellent verbal and written communication, strong analytical skills, ability to work under deadlines and maintain case files in an organized manner.
Ability to travel to and appear in municipal court at locations scheduled by the township (including afternoon, evening or special sessions).
Compensation: $65.00 per hour
