Job Summary The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) assists clients with the origination of residential mortgage loans, providing analysis and advice on home lending solutions that meet their needs and financial objectives. The MLO is expected to develop referrals as a means to grow Key's home lending business and client base, meet or exceed established sales goals, and maintain high standards of client satisfaction and loan quality.

Responsibilities

Prospect home lending business to build and develop new client loan originations and relationships, including developing internal referral relationships and external centers of influence.

Originate and process 1-4 family residential real estate mortgage transactions in accordance with Home Lending process and product guidelines.

Gather documents at the time of registering a loan and serve as the primary point of contact for the client throughout the loan process.

Maintain high standards of client satisfaction and quality, ensuring sales/originator systems and workflows are efficiently controlled.

Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of products, services, competitors, and market trends, serving as a subject matter expert within the market.

Maintain proficiency on sales/originator systems and develop efficient workflows.

Stay informed of trends and developments in the real estate market and mortgage industry.

Foster internal and external relationships.

Perform other duties as assigned; duties may change or new ones may be assigned at any time without notice.

Comply with all KeyBank policies and procedures, acting professionally, ethically, and in the best interests of Key's clients and Key.

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a business‑related field or equivalent experience (preferred)

Experience Qualifications

3+ years experience as a loan officer in 1st mortgage production (preferred)

3+ years working knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, TIL regulations, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, RESPA regulations, local and state real estate and finance laws (preferred)

Tactical Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong customer service skills

Proficiency in sales and service skills, including tele‑consulting, prospecting, networking, and COI relationship management

Strong financial acumen

Emotional Intelligence: Describes EI concepts and demonstrates impact on business results

Practical Skills

Business Acumen: Understands business priorities and profitability drivers

Physical Demands

General Office: Prolonged sitting, face‑to‑face communication, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting of backpacks up to 10 lbs.

Driving Requirements

May need to drive to multiple locations in a single day; requires a valid driver’s license.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS This position is eligible to earn commission and deferred incentive compensation. In addition, the position is compensated at a fixed hourly rate draw of $15.50 per hour.
