Job Description The Data Science and Analytics Innovation Center at UMKC is seeking a Senior Grant Writer to oversee the development and preparation of multi-investigator and large-scale faculty proposal projects arising from interdisciplinary research initiatives. The primary focus is on expanding a portfolio of federally funded grants, supporting proposals over $1M, and providing proposal development support to faculty teams.
Responsibilities
Consulting on proposal strategy and project goals
Facilitating project team meetings for planning and budgeting
Managing proposal schedules and communications
Identifying faculty expertise and resources
Writing non-technical proposal sections (diversity, outreach, management, broader impacts, etc.)
Gathering institutional data and formatting proposals
Preparing budgets and justifications, coordinating with research offices
Assisting faculty with F&A calculations and supporting documents
Drafting letters of support and coordinating site visits
Essential Duties The Senior Grant Writer will work closely with faculty, graduate students, and staff to coordinate large-scale research proposals, ensuring content quality, compliance, and style consistency. Final review and editing of proposal components are key parts of the role.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Experience in training and federal funding programs
Knowledge of UMKC research strengths and diversity initiatives
Additional Skills
Project management, team collaboration, communication skills
Attention to detail, organization, ability to prioritize
Proficiency in MS Office and internet applications
Compensation and Application Up to $57,200 annually, open until filled. Full-time with benefits, including health insurance, retirement, and paid leave. Apply early as review begins immediately.
