Job Responsibilities The Senior Manager Government Affairs Europe (m/f/x) will assist the Executive Director of Government Affairs in managing government affairs and economic development activities for Magna International, Inc. in Europe. This role provides economic and workforce development, lobbying, and public affairs services to Magna International Inc., and its Groups and Divisions. The position serves as a central resource for public policy makers, government officials, industry organizations, and community leaders, and promotes the mission, business objectives, and strategic goals of Magna through effective education and advocacy. Additionally, this position develops and maintains positive relationships with appropriate industry associations and plays a leadership role in those groups to help leverage their influence on behalf of Magna objectives. The position is primarily based in Munich or Sailauf. However, we are open to considering other Magna locations in Europe.
Develop and maintain relationships with the federal, state, and local government officials and their staff to promote Magna strategic positions and objectives
Educate and advise federal, state, and local government officials on legislation and policies that impact Magna International, Inc. and the automotive industry
Identify and secure key federal, state, and local funding opportunities of interest to Magna
Encourage and coordinate visits by federal, state, and local government officials and their staff to Magna facilities
Work with aligned industry and advocacy groups to accomplish legislative goals. For example European Association of Automotive Suppliers (CLEPA), American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union, European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), etc
Cultivate and manage third‑party alliances that are key to Magna public policy and economic development initiatives
Develop and maintain relationships with government representatives and regulators at the federal, state, and local levels
Engage in risk mitigation activities on behalf of Magna and its groups and divisions
Work with Director, Economic Development and Regulatory Compliance on reporting and compliance issues in accordance with required federal, state, and local compliance regulations
Work with Magna Legal in Europe to prepare NDAs and obtain appropriate signatures
Work closely with the Magna group leadership on various grants, training, reimbursement opportunities to ensure they fully understand the requirements associated with these funding opportunities
Assess the need for any lobbying activity based on cost‑benefit analysis. Review any potential obligations with the Executive Director of Government Affairs prior to making any commitments
Negotiate any modifications to various government agreements as required due to changes in business environment. This would include both Magna International discussions as well as with the various federal, state, and local agencies and entities
Prepare grant applications and plans in order to receive funding for various workforce training programs
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local, state, and federal guidelines and policies governing workforce training programs
Evaluate performance and make recommendations for improvement and corrective action
Assist in the coordination of active programs with other agency departments, and liaise with various policy and advisory committees, governmental agencies, local officials and community and private sector organizations on matters relating to programs
Coordinate, schedule, and attend various meetings and seminars and makes presentations, as appropriate
Who We Are Looking For
Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Economics or Law
Master in Law strongly preferred
Experience in managing the various grants/loans applications and reporting requirements across state, local, and federal agencies
Minimum 10 years of experience in government affairs and with policy‑making institutions; robust European regional public affairs experience including policy advocacy and corporate reputation at the national and local level
Strong knowledge of, and connections to, stakeholders at the EU level and in key markets such as Austria, Germany, Belarus, Czech Republic, England, France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey
Your Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual and fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English and German
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required
Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills are necessary
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely while displaying credibility and confidence
Good judgment skills are critical and ability to work independently, take initiative, and not be afraid to ask questions and seek answers when follow‑up is required
Proven ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously and be comfortable in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment
Strong flexibility is a requirement in this role
