is currently seeking an instructor. Researches, develops, and presents law enforcement training programs to basic and advanced law enforcement officers, investigators and other groups as assigned.
Duties Include
Performs instructional duties in assigned classes in Basic Law Enforcement and Advanced Training, in referenced areas of expertise.
Performs research and develops curriculum that addresses new investigative techniques that are legally defensible, procedurally, and tactically sound in areas of gang related organized crime/techniques, graffiti, sign language, culture, behavior trends, publications, language, threat identification, prosecution, etc. Ensure that all training materials and lesson plans being presented are up to date with the needs of the officers in the field. This may also include partnerships with State Law Enforcement Division, local and regional gang task forces to maintain a focal point for instructional material.
Instructs in practical problems training in the Crisis House during BLE Week 7, Cover & Concealment during week 7 as well as Courtroom Testimony, and FATS during Week 8. Serve as an instructor in the School Resource Officer Active Shooter curriculum.
Performs law enforcement duties during times of critical incidents and required to do “ride a long” and assist other law enforcement agencies.
Salary Minimum and Additional Requirements
The hiring salary starts at $60,696 and goes up commensurate with LEO instructional experience.
Minimum requirements
High school diploma and eight (8) years of law enforcement experience or
Associate degree and six (6) years of law enforcement experience or
Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of law enforcement experience and
Experience must include two (2) years of road experience and
Currently certified S.C. Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) or
Currently certified LEO in another jurisdiction with full powers of arrest with the ability to become an S.C. LEO within one year of hire.
Experience in working gang related crimes. Knowledge of gang related graffiti, culture, language, prosecution, etc.

Preferred Qualifications We prefer that you currently possess the following:
Two (2) years of experience writing lesson plans and/or developing training material.
Basic Instructor Development (BID) or Specific Skill Instructor (SSI) certification.
Additional Comments About You
Extensive knowledge and experience in the area of narcotics, gang, and organized crime investigation.
Knowledgeable in emerging crime trends, culture, criminal activities, graffiti, sign language, etc.
Ability to assist other agencies in narcotics, gangs and organized crime investigations related areas of expertise, as requested.
Considerable knowledge of contemporary law enforcement principles, practices, techniques, tactics, and methods.
Knowledge of visual aid use and development.
Skilled at researching and developing comprehensive lesson plans.
Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively.
Knowledge of assessment of student academic achievement techniques.
Analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations.
Coordinate the work of students/others.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and agency representatives.
Ability to relate successfully with students of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds.
Available for field training that may require travel and overnight lodging.
Available to work holidays while classes are in session.
Available for occasional night time instruction.
