Provides system planning, administration, and support of high risk, high impact elements of AOC database operations for the Judicial Information Systems serving Washington’s judiciary.

Position Requirements AOC requires employees to reside in Washington State. Any exceptions must be approved. If you are invited to interview and currently reside outside of Washington State, seek more information about residency requirements from the AOC hiring manager of this recruitment. This position requires at least 2 days per week working onsite at AOC facilities.

Responsibilities

Installs, configures, and maintains Db2 for z/OS database software products to the requirements of the user community who use those software products to support the continuous availability, reliability, and performance of the AOC installed applications.

Maintains, monitors, conducts performance tuning and backup and recovery of databases. Analyzes and plans for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.

Responds to customer service requests and provides senior level troubleshooting, problem resolution and consulting.

Participates in design reviews of high risk, high impact statewide systems and services.

Provides technical mentorship and coaching to other system support staff.

Reviews and evaluates work products for accuracy and applicability.

May perform lead duties for a workgroup. These duties may include resolving procedure or workflow conflicts, providing input to the manager regarding managerial issues, and informing the manager of needs, issues and concerns.

Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Software/Computer Engineering, or a closely allied field, AND eight (8) years of senior-level experience working with relational database systems may substitute for the qualifications listed.

Ability to expertly deploy knowledge and skills in a combination of the following technology and business areas:

Install, configure, and maintain database software

Build and manage databases/instances

Maintain development, test, and production environments

Monitor systems and databases to ensure availability, reliability, security and performance

Maintain high-availability environments

Incident response and resolution

Manage instance and database security

Performance tuning (query tuning, index tuning, server tuning)

Implement regular backup and recovery procedures and test disaster recovery scenarios

Comply with the change control process

Maintain patching compliance

Provide technical support and guidance to end users

Produce documentation for configurations, processes, and procedures.

Support scheduled after-hours maintenance.

Ability to be on call for 24/7 support.

Knowledge/understanding of the overall impact of the enterprise such that they can independently deal with high risk, high profile initiatives impacting services.

Ability to understand the overall impact and interconnections of the AOC system infrastructure.

Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Proficient in utilizing Microsoft 365 products, including Teams, Outlook, Word, OneNote, PowerPoint.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Team-oriented and skilled in working within a collaborative environment.

Strong leadership skills.

Highly self‑motivated and directed.

Ability to accept personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work.

Knowledge of organizational business processes, computer applications, operating systems, and current technologies available to facilitate product & service delivery to customers.

Ability to learn new concepts and skills; absorb and retain new information.

The workweek may fluctuate depending on workload or agency needs.

Overnight travel may be required based on business needs.

This position is not overtime eligible.
