Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr
This position may have the opportunity to be remote.
The Web Designer & UI/UX Specialist supports a team tasked with improving a government website by implementing web content, accessibility, and user‑centered design best practices.
An ideal candidate is experienced in creating visually effective, user‑centric web pages within the constraints of legacy content management systems – such as AFPIMS (American Forces Public Information Management System).
Responsibilities
Develop visually effective, user‑centric web pages to convey information to specific audiences.
Create streamlined and intuitive navigation pathways that enable users to easily find desired information.
Apply typography, layout, and color to support ease of use within established agency branding guidelines.
Integrate user research, cross‑platform compatibility, and information architecture best practices to develop modules, web parts, and interface components that effectively convey information.
Use wireframes and other strategies or tools to mock‑up proposed revisions for approval by government stakeholders.
Collaborate with other members of the web team to visually, textually, and technically identify and implement improvements to new or existing pages.
Be the expert on the technical implementation of website enhancements via the content management system.
Job Requirements
5 or more years of experience as a web designer, developer, UI/UX specialist, or similar in a government environment.
Demonstrated experience interfacing with government stakeholders and balancing competing priorities.
Demonstrated knowledge of Section 508/WCAG Compliance.
Experience developing user journeys based on the needs of specific audiences.
Experience conducting usability tests and applying analytics insights to improve web pages and interaction.
Experience with legacy content management systems used by the government.
Develop solutions to system/platform constraints and changing priorities.
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in communications, web development, user interface design/experience, or similar.
Experience with AFPIMS.
