Hardware Engineering Manager Umbra seeks a Hardware Engineering Manager to lead the Mission Solutions hardware engineering group in Arlington, VA. The role reports to the Director of Engineering and oversees the design, build, test, and operation of advanced satellite and space mission technology. Key Responsibilities Establish and maintain hardware engineering technical excellence within Mission Solutions. Lead the hardware engineering group through the full program lifecycle from early concept through delivery to customers. Contribute to proposal submissions and review technical content accuracy. Manage engineering lab space and functional technical staff, including performance reviews, professional development, workload assignment, and conflict resolution. Collaborate on headcount planning and recruiting, ensuring high-quality and efficient execution. Use agile practices to support sprint planning, track progress, and manage individual performance. Other professional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Degree in engineering or related STEM field. 5+ years of professional experience in personnel management. 3+ years of professional experience in project management. 3+ years of professional experience in space flight hardware engineering. Demonstrated ability to develop and support a team of engineers. Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment. Desired Qualifications 10+ years of experience in personnel management. 5+ years of experience in project management. 5+ years of experience in space flight hardware engineering. Experience with agile project management practices and tools such as scrum, SAFe and Jira. Experience with traditional project management practices and tools such as critical path analysis, resource loading and MS Project. Experience with the full program lifecycle including systems engineering, software, and hardware deliverables.
