JOB DESCRIPTION:
Class A Material Handler
Position Overview:
Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. Opens containers. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand. Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit. Rotate material. Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area. Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or signals crane or hoisting operators to move load to destination. Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet. Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers. Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together. Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators. Assembles crates to contain products such as machines or vehicles. Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products. Other duties may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in standard units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: None required.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic personal computer skills preferred using MS Windows.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Attendance is an essential job requirement defined as having regular, consistent, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance including the ability to work regular hours and shifts, overtime before and after shifts and on weekends as required by union contract. Ability to work as part of a team, including all related departments/plants or independently as required to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Occasional travel requested (less than 10%).
