The
Senior
Compensation and Benefits Manager
is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing competitive and compliant total rewards programs that attract and retain top talent. This role combines strategic planning, data analysis, and hands-on program management to align compensation and benefits strategies with company goals. Key Responsibilities
Compensation Management
Develop and manage salary structures, pay grades, and compensation frameworks aligned with business and financial objectives. Conduct regular market benchmarking and analysis to ensure competitive pay practices. Design and administer incentive programs, including bonuses, commissions, and long-term incentive plans. Evaluate job classifications and establish salary levels based on skills, experience, and market data. Manage annual compensation planning processes (merit increases, bonuses, adjustments). Create and analyze compensation reports from HRIS systems to support leadership and union negotiations. Lead or participate in special projects such as job architecture, pay equity, and system implementations. Benefits Administration
Oversee design, administration, and continuous improvement of all employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, retirement plans (401k), wellness, and leave programs. Manage benefits communications, open enrollment, and orientation processes. Lead administration of all leave programs (ADA, FMLA, STD/LTD, Workers Compensation, personal leaves). Partner with brokers and vendors to negotiate contracts and improve program delivery. Analyze benefits data and utilization to recommend enhancements and cost-saving initiatives. Monitor market trends to maintain competitive offerings.
Compliance & Cross-Functional Leadership
Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll and benefits issues.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local compensation and benefits laws.
Partner with HR, Payroll, Finance, and Legal teams to ensure consistent and compliant administration.
Support M&A, system conversions, and total rewards harmonization initiatives.
Lead process improvement and automation projects to increase accuracy and employee satisfaction.
Prepare reports and dashboards on program performance, utilization, and ROI.
Collaborate with Finance to forecast and manage total rewards budgets.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or related field. 7+ years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits, including 4+ years in a leadership role. Strong understanding of payroll, health, retirement, and leave administration. Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, conditional formulas).
Experience with
ADP WorkforceNow
or similar HRIS platform.
Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to lead teams and build relationships across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications:
CEBS ,
CCP , or
SHRM-CP/SCP .
Experience managing programs in
manufacturing
or
multi-site environments .
Union experience strongly preferred.
Experience with
system implementations ,
benefits platform upgrades , or
M&A integration
projects.
