Position Summary UNC Chapel Hill Departments of Neurology and Genetics are seeking a full-time, tenure-track, research‑emphasis clinician‑scientist faculty to join the Divisions of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology and/or Precision Neurology and Neurogenetics. The position may be Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor based on experience and eligibility.
The primary responsibility is to make high‑impact scientific contributions to neurodegeneration research, focusing on the genetics of dementia. Applicants with a research focus blending genetics and cognitive disorders are encouraged. Research on non‑Mendelian genetics, age‑associated somatic variations, or epigenetics is of high interest. The successful applicant will develop and maintain an extramurally‑funded research program and participate in training students, postdoctoral researchers, residents, and fellows.
Clinical activity in Neurology is expected and encouraged at a level compatible with research support. Candidates without active research support sufficient to justify ≥ 50% effort will receive protected research time as part of their start‑up package. The Genetics Department has a strong NIH funding record and offers a supportive environment.
The start‑up package includes support from Neurology and Genetics and access to UNC core facilities: genomics, computational resources, and national consortia on Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia with Lewy Bodies, and Frontotemporal Dementia.
The North Carolina Research Triangle Park provides an excellent regional community, cost of living, and quality of life. Chapel Hill offers outstanding educational, professional, and recreational opportunities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Candidate must possess an M.D., be trained in Neurology, and be eligible or certified for practice of Neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in North Carolina. Expected to lead an extramurally funded research program at the intersection of genetics/genomics and cognitive disorders and dementia.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Subspecialty training in neurogenetics and/or cognitive disorders is highly desired.
