As a
PRN MRI Technologist , you are required to produce cross‑sectional images for medical interpretation using radiofrequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic purposes. The technologist performs MRI procedures by acquiring and analyzing data needed for diagnosis at the request of a licensed practitioner. Technologists independently perform or assist a licensed practitioner in the completion of magnetic resonance imaging procedures, prepare, administer and document activities related to contrast administration in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or institutional policy. They interact with all healthcare staff, clerical staff members, patient care departments, and patients’ families and visitors through oral communication and documentation in the electronic medical record. This position is accountable for performing correct MRI exams and producing high‑quality diagnostic images while maintaining proficiency and complying with company policies and procedures. The role requires flexibility as a per‑diem technologist, responding promptly to coverage requests due to absences or vacations, and covering at least one shift in a 30‑day period.
Responsibilities
Ensure patient safety, including pre‑screening for contraindications and restricting access related to zones, screening, equipment, and exam scanning as deemed necessary, using independent judgment and discretion.
Produce high‑quality diagnostic images in accordance with company imaging protocols, RadSite Accreditation guidelines, and ARRT/ARMRIT practice standards, demonstrating competency across MR equipment and contrast delivery.
Effectively communicate with patients, customers, and radiologists, using all channels of communication to address concerns, solve problems, and resolve conflict while maintaining HIPAA confidentiality.
Demonstrate independent competency in contrast safety and administration, including starting and discontinuing peripheral IVs and administering contrast through ports, CVLs, and PICC lines when indicated, and demonstrating proficiency with Akumin’s EMR, PACS, and DICOM systems.
Train and orient new technologists, patient coordinators, and MR Technologist Assistants on site or via remote command center as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent experience required; associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification or ARRT in lieu of contract certification.
State license, if applicable, required.
CPR and BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; ACLS certification where applicable.
Valid state driver’s license, as applicable.
Minimum 3 years of technologist experience.
Ability to work at multiple locations.
Strong customer service skills.
Organizational, multi‑tasking, and critical‑thinking skills.
Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs.
Local travel may be required.
Preferred Requirements
1 year of magnetic resonance imaging experience.
Registry in Magnetic Resonance by the ARRT.
Physical Requirements
Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during patient transport on a mobile unit.
Employee will be exposed to a strong magnetic field and to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk; repetitive movement of hands, arms, and legs; see, speak, and hear to communicate with patients.
Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, or crawl; climb and balance; carry and lift, including moving non‑ambulatory patients from a sitting or lying position for transfer or examination.
