About The Role
As an Electrical Controls Engineer at Sharon Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in improving equipment design, enhancing automation systems, and supporting capital projects across the plant. This position requires strong PLC programming skills, electrical troubleshooting expertise, and a continuous improvement mindset, and offers the opportunity to contribute directly to increased reliability, safety, productivity, and cost efficiency.
You will collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams, ensuring that automation systems and electrical components are optimized and maintained to meet production and safety goals. This is an on-site role located in Niles, OH.

What You’ll Do
Monitors plant systems and analyzes performance to support safety, productivity, and cost optimization
Studies site conditions and gathers data to support upcoming projects and improvements
Programs custom PLC and drive solutions for Allen Bradley and Rexroth components
Addresses mill and electrical safety issues in a timely and proactive manner
Assists with specifying and integrating control devices including PLCs, sensors, VFDs, relays, and HMIs
Prepares bills of materials, requisitions, drawings, and specifications for approval
Leads or supports contractors and internal staff during construction, testing, and start‑up phases
Reviews supplier proposals and bids, making recommendations based on technical and cost criteria
Partners with maintenance and operations to troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues
Maintains and improves plant‑wide automation systems including PLCs and drives
Manages and documents changes to system software; communicates updates to relevant staff
Supports shift work as required by plant operations
Promotes and enforces health and safety practices in compliance with ESA Code and company policy
Performs other duties as assigned
Who You Are
8+ years of full‑time experience in a related electrical/controls role
Proficient in AutoCAD and capable of creating/modifying technical drawings
Strong PLC programming skills (Allen Bradley) and HMI experience (PanelView/Wonderware)
Familiar with control system devices including sensors, transmitters, and VFDs
Strong computer literacy and ability to document system changes accurately
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Proven leadership and troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of ESA Code and related safety standards
Regular, predictable on‑site attendance is essential to the role
