Job Summary The number of Distributed Generation (DG) sites is increasing throughout Georgia as solar, battery storage, and biomass technology is implemented to facilitate renewable energy. The Interconnections Planning Distribution Engineer will gain experience with Distributed Energy Resource modeling, area contingency studies, and real-world applications. The successful candidate will provide technical review and support for DG projects, learn about energy procurement programs, and work closely with SCS and GPC workgroups (Customer Programs, Renewable Development, Distribution Reliability, Area Planning, Transmission Interconnections, and area Power Delivery teams) to ensure new interconnections safely meet the needs of GPC, its customers, and communities.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

Review distribution generation interconnection agreements for projects approved by the GA Public Service Commission.

Provide technical support for project studies.

Perform and coordinate transmission and distribution system studies (Load-Rejection Transient Overvoltage analysis, stiffness analysis, Integrated Transmission System assessment, and detailed load flow studies).

Provide quality review of interconnection facility designs and needed company upgrades for various programs.

Conduct technical review of contracts prior to execution (interconnection agreements and amendments).

Offer technical support and insight to other GPC workgroups on generator interconnections and system impacts.

Education Requirements

4‑year B.S. or Engineering Technology degree (Electrical discipline preferred).

Advanced certifications preferred (e.g., Professional Engineer license).

Technical Experience Requirements

Demonstrated experience with planning, design, operation, or maintenance of transmission, distribution, or generation assets.

Specific experience with generator interconnection processes preferred.

Experience with distribution system planning and modeling software preferred.

Knowledge of electric utility operating and construction practices, land requirements, regulations, budgeting, scheduling, and business practices preferred.

Analytical skills for evaluating progress, identifying problem areas, assessing alternatives, financial impacts, and determining viable solutions.
