Associate Lecturer/Lecturer – Biomedical Sciences, Rural – Port Macquarie

Employment Type: Part–time, 21–28 hours a week (0.6–0.8 FTE)
Duration: Fixed Term contract until 30th June 2027
Remuneration: Academic Level A or Level B $91,381 – $127,947 per annum (pro‑rata, dependent on experience), plus 17% superannuation and leave loading
Work Rights Required: Must hold full rights to work in Australia. Visa sponsorship is not available.

UNSW Rural brings world‑class medical education to rural and regional Australia, delivering the full six‑year medical course at our rural clinical campuses (RCC) across several locations. Face‑to‑face teaching is critical to rural program delivery as students build strong relationships with clinicians and the local medical community.
Role Overview The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer, Biomedical Sciences, Rural will have a passion for teaching and demonstrating within the laboratory environment and will contribute to the undergraduate medical course in delivery of biomedical sciences and laboratory management at the RCC.
Deliver high‑quality undergraduate teaching in biomedical sciences, covering anatomy, physiology, genetics and immunology, biochemistry, histology, pharmacology, cell and molecular biology, microbiology, research methodology, and statistics.
Manage laboratory environment: set‑up and pack‑down of equipment, prepare chemical solutions and cultures, resolve general and complex technical issues, maintain and manage laboratory equipment, ensure compliance and documentation, and maintain safety records and inventories.
Support rural health education initiatives and collaborate with local hospitals and community health outcomes.
Maintain laboratory compliance, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Report to the Director of Medical Education. No direct reports.
Qualifications and Skills
Registered in an accredited BMed, MBBS, or equivalent undergraduate degree in medical sciences, or hold a PhD in a relevant field with relevant work experience.
Demonstrated experience in teaching biomedical sciences with a strong commitment to rurally focused teaching.
Knowledge and experience in laboratory management, regulatory compliance, and safety management.
Proficiency in setting up equipment, preparing solutions, and supporting student laboratory processes.
Strong communication skills and the ability to engage students and staff effectively.
Experience and technical knowledge in information technologies supporting biomedical sciences, including e‑Learning (for Level B).
Emerging research interest with peer‑reviewed publications (for Level B and above).
