Associate Lecturer/Lecturer – Biomedical Sciences, Rural
Location Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia (UNSW Rural campus)
Employment Details
Employment Type: Part‑time, 21–28 hours a week (0.6–0.8 FTE)
Contract: Fixed term until 30 June 2027
Remuneration: Academic Level A/ B $91,381–$127,947 per annum (pro‑rata) plus 17 % superannuation and leave loading
Work rights: Full right to work in Australia; no visa sponsorship
Role Overview UNSW Rural delivers world‑class medical education at multiple rural clinical campuses. This role supports the undergraduate medical course by teaching biomedical sciences and managing the laboratory environment at the Port Macquarie campus.
Key Responsibilities
Teach core biomedical science modules (anatomy, physiology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, histology, pharmacology, cell/molecular biology, microbiology, research methodology, statistics) in large and small groups.
Deliver basic and advanced laboratory instruction, including equipment set‑up, chemical solution preparation and sample culture.
Maintain laboratory compliance, safety records, inventories and manage equipment servicing and procurement.
Support students in practical and theoretical learning, providing mentorship and feedback.
Contribute to curriculum review and educational quality initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
Medical degree (MBBS/BMed) and/or an undergraduate degree in a relevant medical science, or a PhD with relevant work experience.
Demonstrated teaching experience in biomedical sciences and commitment to rural health education.
Technical expertise in laboratory management, regulatory compliance and safety.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines.
Preferred
Experience teaching at the university level and use of e‑learning technologies.
Emerging research interests with peer‑reviewed publications.
