Instructor - Pediatric Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (Colorado Springs) Key Responsibilities

The physician assistant/nurse practitioner will work under the supervision of the faculty otolaryngologist to provide both inpatient and outpatient care. Support all facets of the outpatient clinical service, including managing new and return patient visits, providing pre-operative and post-operative education and care, and coordinating care with providers within and outside the practice setting. This will occur in concert with RN and MA staff already in place. Be trained to perform office-based and hospital-based procedures such as fiberoptic laryngoscopy, nasal endoscopy, management of tracheostomy tubes, simple biopsies, nasal cautery, and microscopic ear examination and cleaning/debridement. Inpatient duties include morning rounds, discharge summaries, in-patient and out-patient consults, and assisting on surgical cases. Responsible for patient education and obtaining surgical consents. Communication with PCPs and other CHCO physicians by phone is expected. Become proficient in the electronic medical record (EMR) system used by the hospital. Assist in the education of nurses and medical assistants in the field of otolaryngology. Provide administrative support and thorough follow-up to ensure orderly, effective, and superior patient care. May include development and implementation of educational materials or protocols for staff and patients. Overnight call, evening, weekend, and holiday work/call may be required in the future, but not required at this time. Work Location

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. For NP degree holders: Acute Care Certification is required. If an NP has at least 5 years of pediatric inpatient experience, enrollment in acute care certification within 4 years of hire is required; if less than 5 years, enrollment within 2 years of hire. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Pediatric or Otolaryngology practice; Pediatric Otolaryngology experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to function both independently and in collaboration with other health care professionals; ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with health care specialists and staff; capacity to work in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication, organizational skills, and compassion for patients; ability to travel and provide services at Network of Care sites.
