Title: Desktop Support Engineer

6 Month Contract Position (extension likely) - M-F 8:30-5 pm (some flexibility)
Rate: $23/hr

Position Purpose: Performs entry level desktop support work. Provides troubleshooting and technical assistance for both local and remote computer systems and users. Provides assistance or training related to computer hardware and software use; including printing, installation, word-processing, electronic mail, and operating systems. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Responsibilities:
Answers user inquiries via phone or remote session regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems; provides technical support using interpersonal communication techniques. Uses software tools for remote management, troubleshooting, asset management, patch management and anti-virus. Participates in dispatch rotation for helpdesk tickets. Installs and performs various repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications. Records daily data communication transactions, problems, remedial action taken, and installation activities. Completes evaluations of software or hardware and recommends improvements or upgrades. Resets user account passwords. Sets up equipment for employee use and ensures proper installation of cables, operating systems and appropriate software. May create Active Directory user accounts. May create Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and distribution groups. May prepare, edit, and distribute documentation, training materials, and procedures. May train users in the proper use of hardware and software. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
