Position Summary The Assistant Director provides a key support role in oversight of the Physical Plant operations and management of daily FMO activities. The incumbent assists the Director in ensuring the safe, efficient operation of the buildings, equipment and systems while assuring compliance. The AD provides prompt resolution of daily operational issues and serves as primary FMO point of contact in the Director’s absence.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the daily operations of Facilities Maintenance, the Physical Plant, and Fleet Services.
Assist the Director with ensuring compliance with all county, state and federal codes/regulations (BOCA, OSHA, ADA, NFPA, fire alarm/suppression, electrical, plumbing, pressure vessels, etc.).
Provide project oversight to ensure timely ordering, receipt and completion of equipment replacement/repairs/service.
Evaluate reports of issues within campus learning or work environments and provide recommendations for resolution.
Provide ongoing staff supervision and counseling.
Reinforce a compliant workplace safety mentality with all FM&O team members.
Foster the sustainable custodial and grounds programs which provide safe, healthy learning and work environments.
Oversee effective operation of the Building Automation System (BAS) controls to ensure climate comfort parameters are maintained throughout all buildings.
Track departmental expenditures to maintain fiscal discipline and ensure budget compliance.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher.
Minimum of ten years of relevant experience.
Maryland First-Grade Stationary Engineer License.
Excellent reasoning and problem‑solving ability.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
Strong supervisory skills with ability to interact with all levels of management.
Strong customer service mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and working knowledge of various trades.
Building Automation Systems (BAS) programming and/or service experience.
Immediate response and resolution to issues after normal business hours.
