The Lab Technician will support the software development and validation teams by building, maintaining, and troubleshooting test benches used for automotive software testing. This role bridges hardware and software—ensuring that test environments, devices, and electrical systems are ready for engineers to execute automated and manual tests efficiently.
Role Responsibilities
Build and maintain test benches: Assemble and configure test setups that replicate in‑vehicle systems for software validation.
System configuration: Support software engineers with basic system configuration, flashing ECUs, and verifying connectivity between test components.
Hardware integration: Assist in integrating prototype ECUs, sensors, and wiring harnesses according to system schematics.
Testing support: Execute functional and regression tests per defined test procedures; collect and document measurement data accurately.
Debug and troubleshoot: Support engineers in diagnosing and resolving hardware and connectivity issues within test setups.
Rework and assembly: Create test fixtures and custom cable assemblies.
Lab operations: Manage lab equipment, maintain inventory of parts and tools, order supplies, and ensure adherence to lab safety and OSHA standards.
Data & documentation: Record setup configurations, test results, and issue reports; track bugs and elevate as needed.
Automation readiness: Bring up and maintain test beds to support automated test frameworks.
Requirements
5–7 years of experience as an Engineering or Lab Technician in an automotive, electronics, or technology environment.
Strong experience in testbench setup, network setup and lab rack management.
Ability to read and interpret schematics and build custom cable assemblies.
Proficiency with system and device configuration for embedded or software test setups.
Experience supporting prototype system bring‑up and integration testing.
Hands‑on experience managing lab safety, equipment, and inventory.
Desired Skills
Experience in automotive electronics or embedded systems development environments.
Familiarity with CAN, LIN, or Ethernet automotive communication protocols.
Experience with PCB layout or design tools.
Exposure to test automation systems or hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) environments.
Education
Associate’s degree or certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
Compensation Salary range is dependent on factors such as geographical differentials, credentials or certifications, industry‑based experience, qualification and training. In the city of Mountain View, CA, the salary range for this position is $40.00 – $60.00.
