About the Position The cashier is responsible for the efficient expedition of customer sales transactions at the front registers. You must maintain proper control of cash, ensure customer satisfaction, and safeguard company assets. You will assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor, following all procedural guidelines of the Front End Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Walk the store prior to each shift to ensure awareness of promotional and sale items; conduct produce walk and weekly testing.
Compute bills, itemized lists, and tickets showing amount due.
Receive payment by cash, check, credit cards, gift cards, or automatic debits.
Issue receipts, refunds, credits, rain checks, or change due to customers.
Operate the cash register by scanning price-coded items, entering PLU or UPC manually, compiling printed lists, and displaying cost, tax, and rebates on the monitor.
Greet customers entering the store and respond promptly to customer needs.
Maintain a clean and orderly checkout area and ensure no personnel items are in the area.
Issue coupons and rain checks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent degree.
Preferred 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in the Front End department.
Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
Adapt to the ever-changing high-volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team.
Take initiative when problems arise.
Show flexibility to adapt to a variety of situations.
Prioritize and meet deadlines with advanced attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; document knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Multitask and possess strong organizational skills.
Support and contribute to team goals.
Work varied hours/days as business dictates.
Basic math, weight, and measure knowledge.
Use a Point of Sale (POS) system effectively.
