Mission Technologies, a division of HII, is seeking a senior software engineer to support the next generation of maritime autonomy. This role resides in the Uncrewed Systems (UxS) business group, a team that designs, develops, and sustains unmanned underwater and surface vehicles and their autonomy software.

Job Description As a Software Engineer at HII UxS, you will work with a world‑class team to deploy advanced autonomous maritime solutions for defense, marine research, and commercial applications. You will design, develop, document, test, and debug software and systems that include logical and mathematical solutions, collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers, and contribute to the architecture of UUV autonomy software, modular software architecture, and autonomous launch and recovery functions.
Essential Responsibilities
Design, develop, document, test, and debug application software and systems.
Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers and hardware engineers in planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems.
Determine user needs, analyze system capabilities, resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, and input data acquisition, and prepare operating instructions.
Design and develop compilers, assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems.
Ensure software standards are met.
Minimum Qualifications
9 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field; or
7 years of relevant experience with a master’s degree in a related field; or
4 years of relevant experience with a Ph.D. or Juris Doctorate; or
High school diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
6+ years of experience in software development and software architecture design.
In‑depth knowledge of C++, Java, and Python.
In‑depth knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
Experience with Atlassian tools.
Experience in all phases of the software development life‑cycle (requirements management, test methods).
Strong knowledge of version control.
Experience with multi‑threaded programming & design.
Experience with virtualization and containerization (VMware, VirtualBox, Docker).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (Secret).
Preferred Requirements
Experience with autonomous systems.
Experience with maritime technology.
Experience with maritime robotics.
Physical Requirements Adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity required for the Software Engineer family.
