Director Project Office Position Description Summary Lead the Project Management Office for R&D, elevating the craft of all Project Managers in R&D by training best practices, tools, and methods to create a cohesive community. Challenge broader organization to be project‑centric, propose process, culture, and governance changes as part of the PPE group. Provide direct management oversight of the PMO group, China PM team, Submission PM, and dotted‑line reporting for Japan PM, ensuring consistent support and resources across all projects. Train and equip R&D Project Managers with appropriate tools, templates, and learning functions to support risk management, budget, critical path, timelines, and resource allocation.

Main Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Lead the PM office to elevate the craft of all Project Managers in R&D by training best practices, tools, and methods.

Challenge the broader organization to be more project‑centric through outside‑in thinking, proposing process, culture, and governance changes as part of the PPE group.

Provide direct management oversight of the PMO group, China PM team (2), Submission PM (4 FTE + FSP), and dotted‑line reporting for Japan PM (4 FTE); ensuring all projects receive consistent specialty support and practices that meet portfolio needs.

Provide training to R&D Project Managers in fit‑for‑purpose tools, templates, and a PM learning function, enabling projects to be planned consistently with risk management, budgets, critical path/timelines, and resource allocation in mind.

Qualifications & Experience

12+ years in R&D project management or operations.

Expert, first‑hand knowledge of PM best practices, tools, templates, and training groups.

Experience working in cross‑functional R&D teams.

In‑depth knowledge of drug research, development, and manufacturing processes of pharmaceuticals.

Advanced degree in Science, MBA, PMP certification, or equivalent is a plus.

Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team setting, meeting goals by managing own timelines.

Involvement in cross‑functional, multicultural and international teams preferable.

Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) in English; experience adapting messaging to suit the intended audience.

Excellent strategic thinking skills.

Significant experience in application and utilization of portfolio management systems and software.
