The Maitre’D is the first and last person a guest will interact with in the restaurant. Therefore, it is imperative that the first and last impression a guest will have is positive, gracious and professional. Most importantly, you will be supervising and coordinating the flow of the dining room and the rest of the host team. Constant communication with the kitchen and managers is key to a successful dining service.
Requirements
At least 3 years of hospitality sales and management experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent critical thinking and decision‑making skills.
Must be able to maintain tact and calm under pressure.
Able to work flexible hours, including off‑hours, weekends and holidays.
Effective communication in English, both oral and written.
Professional and polished appearance and demeanor.
Responsibilities
Enthusiastically welcomes every guest at the door.
Clearly communicates with all guests.
Manages and maximizes guests’ reservations and restaurant seating capacity.
Ensures the restaurant’s online presence maintains a rating of 4.5 or higher.
Moves toward the guest proactively, never waiting for the guest to come.
Accommodates guests’ special requests to the fullest extent possible.
Shows guests to their table while providing welcoming service.
Graciously says goodbye to all guests and invites them to return.
Oversees daily restaurant reservations and pre‑assigns seating where necessary.
Communicates with Reservations regarding special orders, cake orders and other requests.
Answers the restaurant telephone courteously and efficiently.
Assists guests to tables and helps with seating arrangements.
Shuts down the podium and forwards phones to the voice‑loop at shift end.
Works as a team, assisting with all guests’ and employees’ needs and inquiries.
Maintains positive guest relations at all times.
Resolves guest complaints, ensuring satisfaction.
Familiarizes with all restaurant activities (live music, DJ, events) to respond accurately.
Monitors and maintains cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned areas.
Makes comprehensive knowledge of schedules, in‑house groups, daily counts and room capacity.
Communicates effectively with management, chefs and culinary staff regarding guest needs.
Makes sure all menus are clean and available; reprints when necessary.
Performs all other job‑related duties as requested.
Continuously trains current and new host staff.
Manages lounge seating and lounge table sales.
Manages Speakeasy RSVPs and table sales.
Assists in communicating manpower needs and hiring of incoming hosts.
Recognizes and shares opportunities to enhance the guest experience at front door and lounge.
Work Environment
Regular exposure to heat from stoves and burners.
Loud noise level.
Required to stand, use hands, reach with arms and handle objects; talk, hear, taste and smell.
Frequent walking required.
Preferred
At least 3 years of host experience in high‑volume or upscale dining environments.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a similar resort setting.
