Job Summary Leads and/or supervises a small to medium unit of non‑exempt employees. The core functions include overseeing field services in the water utility, directing crews, ensuring work quality and safety, and maintaining operational efficiency.
Essential Functions
Assigns, monitors, and reviews workers’ equipment, facilities, materials, and tools based on short‑term priorities; provides supervision and technical direction as needed.
Plans, delegates, and assigns work orders for daily operations and maintenance; oversees crews and crew leaders to ensure field services are completed efficiently and timely.
Identifies, determines, and adheres to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans established by higher‑level leadership; makes limited adjustments and participates in field service work regularly.
Oversees, supervises, and leads the daily operation of service personnel, clerical, or installation and maintenance crews; monitors payroll, completes time sheets, provides performance feedback, and monitors safety and procedural compliance.
Inspects, checks, and evaluates completed work and work in progress for quality and monitors work performance of employees.
Actively looks for methods to improve production; monitors vehicle and equipment operations to improve efficiency and ensure completion of work assigned.
Performs any and all other trades work as needed or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
Human relations and supervision necessary to function as a first‑level supervisor.
Knowledge of water utility equipment, materials, and operations.
Knowledge of field services practices, procedures, and activities.
Ability to plan, assign, train, direct, and evaluate subordinate trade, service, clerical, or technical employees.
Ability to read schematic diagrams and blueprints.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, precision testing, and/or troubleshooting equipment.
Availability to work varying shifts (days, evenings, nights) including weekends and holidays.
Communicating effectively and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Education
High school diploma or GED.
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in any of the following Water/Wastewater/Stormwater areas: Construction, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance.
Two (2) years of experience with supervisory/management responsibilities (may be included in the required experience above).
Licenses
Valid driver's license with good driving record.
Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at time of application.
Other Requirements
May require varying shifts including nights, weekends and/or holidays.
May be subject to twenty‑four/seven (24/7) call‑out.
Assist with Snow/Ice assignment during ice events.
Salary Range $28.27 – $33.93 per hour.
