Job Description
The Sr. Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing merchant applications and conducting appropriate due diligence, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company and sponsor bank guidelines. The Senior Underwriter will work closely with team members, management and across other areas of the organization to deliver strong performance in regards to the underwriting and onboarding process, and contribute to the overall success of the department. The role will also be responsible for helping drive process improvements, support team and company wide initiatives, and leverage a data based approach to deliver ongoing improvement on KYC/KYB/onboarding capabilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Evaluate underwriting packages to ensure that all necessary documentation has been provided in accordance with partner guidelines
Ability to analyze and generate department related reports (MATCH, TIN, Credit Reports, OFAC)
Assess and document findings related financial analysis and risk exposure calculations
Work closely with Team Leads and Management on escalated issues and partner concerns
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to enhance overall team performance
Identity emerging risk trends in the payments and underwriting landscape to proactively provide feedback around risk frameworks
Conduct in-depth financial statement analysis, including cash flow, balance sheets, and income statements, to assess merchant creditworthiness
Apply advanced risk management principles to evaluate risk exposure across portfolios
Support leadership with projects or department lead trainings
Ensure compliance and understanding of department and company policies and procedures
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused driving customer while mitigating risk
Identify opportunities to streamline underwriting workflows and enhance operational efficiency through technology and process innovation
Correspondences and Reporting
Track individual SLAs, pend and approval rates to ensure adherence to departmental KPI’s
Collaborate interdepartmentally to ensure alignment on dept and company expectations
Ensure compliance and understanding of updated department policies and guidelines
Requirements
3+ Proven experience in underwriting, payment processing, or risk management
Advanced knowledge of reviewing and analyzing financial statements
Ability to prioritize workflows and organize daily activities with competing priorities
Solid knowledge and understanding of underwriting, credit risk principles, and trends
Proficient in leveraging data analysis to support rapid, well-informed decision-making
Skilled in exercising sound judgment with clear, data-driven recommendations to support business strategy
