Job Description The Cardiac Technician maintains close observation of all monitors in the central monitoring room, notifying personnel when rhythm disturbances are observed. This position performs all responsibilities required as defined in the scope of service, ensuring that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
Responsibilities
Maintain close observation of EKG tracing continuously during assigned watch.
Notify clinical personnel of all rhythm disturbances, continuous artifact inoperative alarms, and other monitoring problems.
Utilize telemetry emergency call system for life‑threatening arrhythmias; consult with RN when treatment of the arrhythmia is indicated.
Refer all major system problems to Clinical Manager, Charge Nurse, Assistant Director, or Bio‑medical Electronics Department.
Communicate to oncoming shift a status report on all telemetry patients and monitoring equipment.
Respond to all monitor alarms and notify appropriate personnel as needed; interpret alarms and validate computer interpretation within five minutes.
Reserve and issue telemetry units when ordered; maintain accurate telemetry assignments and current stop alerts according to unit policy.
Assure quality of ECG input signal; use appropriate techniques to correct artifact or interference.
Differentiates arrhythmias requiring immediate and non‑immediate action and respond accordingly.
Maintain up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of data collected.
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Basic computer knowledge.
Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
