SUMMARY Opportunity to join one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention.

Faculty and staff of the Genitourinary Medical Oncology department are dedicated to the treatment, research, and prevention of genitourinary cancers of the prostate, bladder, kidney, testes, and penis. With a clearer understanding of the biologic behavior of genes, molecules, and cells that are responsible for the formation and growth of these tumors, we have been able to develop treatments tailored to the individual patient.

KEY FUNCTIONS Conducts comprehensive health assessments by obtaining the past medical, family, social history & review of systems; performing physical examination and psychosocial assessment; and monitoring laboratory, radiographic, and procedural data.

Works autonomously as defined by the nurse practice act to prevent, minimize, and manage symptoms/toxicities/health abnormalities related to disease or treatment in collaboration with the healthcare team; and to evaluate and modify care as needed.

Serves as a clinical resource, utilizing advanced nursing knowledge to provide consultation to colleagues and allied personnel; and by collaborating with medical, nursing, and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow up, and evaluation.

Provides health education and counseling to individuals, families, and health professionals emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention as well as the diagnosis and management of disease.

Participates in professional activities by attending continuing education programs and reviewing literature related to clinical area; participating in professional organizations; communicating advances in nursing practice or health care through writing for publications and presentations of scientific papers.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Education Required: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Experience Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role.

Advanced Practice Registered Nurse: Licensure / Certification Required: All of the following: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN, ACNP, ACNPC, ACAGNP, AGACNP, ACNPC‑AG, AGACNP, AGNP, ACPNP, ANP, AGNP, AGPCNP, FNP, GNP, PNP, PMHNP or WHNP). Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Basic Life Support (BLS). Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in the following departments: Pediatric – Patient Care (113100). May be required: Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Physician Assistant: Education Required: Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.

Physician Assistant: Experience Preferred: At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role.

Physician Assistant: Licensure / Certification Required: All of the following: PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners. May be required: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics – Patient Care (113100).
