Job Summary The Patrol Director oversees the ski and bike patrollers, who provide emergency services to skiing and riding guests including medical care, search and rescue, lift evacuation, and identification and marking of hazardous ski conditions and biking conditions.

Essential Functions

Effectively handles all on-mountain emergencies

Provides emergency medical care when needed

Performs daily trail checks, to identify and address potential hazards

Interacts with guests and other staff members while wearing visible patrol uniform

Carries first aid equipment at all times while on duty

Follows appropriate radio use guidelines

Participates in continuing education to maintain and build skills in various aspects

Maintains and documents records of all pertinent information regarding incidents, and conducts incident investigations as directed.

Models and promotes snow sport and bike sport safety

Performs search and rescue operations

Supervises approximately 60-70 volunteer patrollers, and 15 paid patrollers, including making appropriate hiring, firing and disciplinary decisions

Takes charge during on-mountain emergencies such as, but not limited to, back country rescue or lift evacuation

Identifies and addresses potential physical hazards/risks to the organization

Coordinates safety training, and keeps appropriate training records

Conducts snowmobile and UTV training

Conducts accident investigations

Conduct Ski and Bike Season Refreshers

NOTE:

All Bolton Valley employees are required to perform alternate functions from time to time, both within and outside of their assigned department, particularly during peak periods such as holiday weekends.

Customer Service Expectations Patroller has frequent customer contact while providing services to the customer and representing the resort in uniform. Must be helpful, friendly, courteous and professional in accordance with Bolton’s commitment to providing superior customer service.

Qualifications

High School degree, plus 3-5 years prior patrolling experience

CPR for the Professional Rescuer, NSP Outdoor Emergency Care Technician Certification required

Advanced skiing/riding and biking ability required to reach and rescue injured skiers or bikers on all terrain.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Training and/or experience in emergency patient care, mass casualty situations, lift evacuation, ski and toboggan handling, Snowmobile and UTV driving

Solid supervisory, training, and record keeping skills

Physical and Mental Demands Position involves skiing/snowboarding, biking and hauling equipment such as toboggans and backboards on all terrain. Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend and twist to load a toboggan or backboard and maneuver a loaded toboggan while skiing. Able to stay professional and calm in all emergency situations.

Work Environment This position involves working outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, heat, wind and rain, on varied terrain surfaces, and requires being on your feet for extended periods of time. Desk work is performed inside in a climate controlled environment.
