Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a passionate and forward-thinking Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist to join our dynamic team at Musgrove Park Hospital.
This is a full time (10 PA) permanent position. Working Monday to Friday on a 1:7 full shift rota, with on call
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a nationally recognised cancer service, delivering high-quality care across Somerset and beyond.
The successful candidate will have CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and accreditation in Colposcopy with the British Society of Colposcopists and Cervical Pathologists (BSCCP).
You'll work alongside a well-established team of subspecialist consultants, clinical fellows, nurse specialists, and a multidisciplinary network committed to excellence in cancer care, research, and education.
Main duties of the job
To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist services as a sub-specialist trained gynaecological oncologist. To help to develop our service, including HIPEC for ovarian cancer, support radicality of ovarian cancer surgery available locally and the development of a subspecialist training post. Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed annually. You are responsible for the associated duties set out in of the Terms and Conditions. As the Trust is combining with YDH, some duties may be provided at YDH in the future. The purpose of including agreed personal objectives in your Job Plan is to set out in clear and transparent terms what you and your clinical manager have agreed should reasonably be achieved in the time in question. These objectives are not contractually binding in themselves, but you have a duty to make all reasonable efforts to achieve them. The post currently has an on-call commitment on the day after surgical lists to gynaecological oncology patients only (level A). The number of consultants who are away on leave at any one time will be agreed with the Trust specialty policy. During the absence of colleagues on leave, Consultants are expected to provide agreed levels of cover. About us

We work collaboratively alongside the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department, which includes Consultants with special interests in Urogynaecology, Menstrual Dysfunction, Minimal Access surgery, Fetal Medicine, Maternal Medicine and Diabetes. We are an accredited BSGE Endometriosis Centre. The Gynaecological Oncology team run the Gynae-oncology service including rapid access clinics, Colposcopy, Vulval Dysplasia and Post-Menopausal Bleeding Services. The Trust uniquely spans Musgrove Park Hospital (MPH), Yeovil District Hospital (YDH), the community and mental health services, as well as 1 in 5 primary care practices in Somerset and the post will support the combined Somerset Foundation Trust spoke and hub cross-county service. The Somerset Gynaecological Cancer Centre has an excellent multi-disciplinary team with input from Medical Oncologists, Clinical Oncologists, specialist Gynaecological Pathologists, and a Gynaecological Cytopathologist (responsible for the regional Cervical Screening Cytopathology service), and Consultant Radiologists with specialist interest in gynaecology and pelvic imaging. We have three CNS's and a CNP in MPH and a further two CNS's in YDH Person Specification
Qualifications
Medical Degree or equivalent Full GMC registration with a licence to practice Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (or within 6 months of application) Subspecialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology (or equivalent) BSCCP accreditation to practice colposcopy An appropriate higher degree or qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent). Registered BSCCP trainer Experience
Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology and subspecialist accreditation in gynaecological oncology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT Statement regarding appropriate training and experience. Advanced laparoscopic and/or robotic skills (total laparoscopic hysterectomy) Experienced Colposcopist Statement regarding appropriate training and experience. Advanced laparoscopic and/or robotic skills (total laparoscopic hysterectomy) Enthusiasm for teaching and subspecialist training development Additional Criteria
