Key Functions Clinical Provides accurate diagnosis and assessment of patients to determine appropriate treatment plan and follow-up care. Must be familiar with current diagnostic and treatment practices for gynecologic and related cancers. Requires considerable exercise of expertise, judgment, and analytical skill. May consult with other department physicians and/or other MD Anderson physicians to confirm or validate diagnosis and treatment.

Must be able to perform radical pelvic operations independently, including minimally invasive surgery and/or robotic techniques: radical hysterectomy, pelvic exenterations (total, anterior, posterior), lymphadenectomy (inguinal, pelvic, para‑aortic), vaginal or abdominal hysterectomy with salpingo‑oophorectomy, urinary diversion or reconstruction, omentectomy, segmental bowel resection, intestinal bypass, hypogastric artery ligation, and other appropriate procedures. Requires use of head light, protective shields, head gear, gloves, mask, and scrubs during surgery and outpatient settings. Must be familiar with operating room equipment and gynecologic oncology patient care. Must stand for long periods during procedures and patient care.

Must independently perform patient evaluations, history and physical exams, central venous catheter insertion, paracentesis, thoracentesis, endometrial biopsy, cryosurgery, cystoscopy, proctoscopy, colposcopy, and needle biopsy. Assess patients for protocol eligibility, explain protocols and treatment options, answer questions, and maintain good verbal assessment skills in face‑to‑face and telephone encounters. Must lift, move, or assist patients up to 200 pounds. Walk throughout clinic, ED, OR, inpatient floors, and other MD Anderson locations. May cover providers at other Houston area locations.

Requires advanced clinical pharmacology knowledge for cancer chemotherapy and biologics. Responsible for patient selection, drug selection, administration, and management of toxic side effects. Administers systemic, topical, intraperitoneal agents and maintains current expertise in patient care. Reads gynecologic oncology journals to stay current and participates in MD Anderson planning conferences.

Must accurately enter medical records, dictating supportive reports (clinic notes, histories, operative reports, progress notes, consults, medication orders, procedure notes, discharge summaries, deaths). Understands documentation procedures, confidentiality, and release policies. Ensures records are accurate and up‑to‑date, follows institutional policies, and submits proper coding and charge capture documents.

Must work effectively under stress, make independent patient care decisions, and demonstrate MD Anderson core values of caring, integrity, and discovery.

Must comply with employment rules, medical licensing, and institutional regulations.

Administrative Participate in departmental or institutional projects or committees as assigned. Attend staff meetings, MD Anderson conferences, special programs, morning conferences, rounds, pathology, radiotherapy conferences, and journal club. Prepare documentation for annual reviews and maintain current CV.

Research Initiate and/or participate in clinical and lab research projects in gynecologic oncology. Pursue publication in peer‑reviewed journals as senior author or collaborator. Collaborate with department and institutional scientists on multidisciplinary projects. Present findings at MD Anderson and national conferences.

Education Provide instruction in diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures to residents, fellows, nurses, and para‑professionals. Represent department in local, regional, state, and national matters. Travel for community events, educational forums, and referral groups. Maintain membership in professional associations.
