Position Overview The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for ensuring the efficient and timely start-up of all morning bus routes for the Weston Public Schools. This role serves as the primary communication hub for the Transportation Department during critical morning operations, providing essential technical support and administrative assistance. This is a temporary, part-time role, Monday-Friday, 5:00 am - 9:00 am, reporting to the Transportation Coordinator. About the Weston Public Schools The Weston Public Schools enrolls approximately 2,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The school district includes a high school for grades 9-12, a middle school for grades 6-8, an upper elementary school for grades 4-5, and two lower elementary schools for pre-kindergarten through grade 3. Since 1967, Weston has participated in METCO (Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity) - a voluntary school integration program that places Boston residents in suburban schools. The Weston METCO program enrolls approximately 160 students (K-12). Key Responsibilities

Serve as the main point of contact for the Transportation Department from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Efficiently answer incoming phone calls from drivers, staff, schools, and parents, prioritizing urgent matters. Monitor and respond promptly to radio pages, relaying information accurately and professionally to drivers on route. Prepare and print daily route sheets, driver manifests, and necessary operational reports prior to route departure. Assist the Transportation Coordinator and Assistant Transportation Coordinator with morning startup procedures for the bus fleet. Support physical preparation of vehicles, which may include performing basic pre-trip checks, light cleaning (e.g., clearing debris, wiping down surfaces), and ensuring all necessary supplies are onboard. Report any immediate mechanical or maintenance issues identified during the morning startup to the appropriate staff for quick resolution. Perform necessary technical adjustments within the routing software and the District's Stop Finder application and system. Verify the accuracy of digital route data and driver assignments to ensure smooth daily deployment. Complete basic data entry and maintain accurate electronic logs related to daily route completion and driver attendance. Assist with other relevant administrative and operational duties as assigned by the Transportation Coordinator and Assistant Transportation Coordinator to maintain continuity of service. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent Proven computer literacy with the ability to perform basic technology tasks, including data entry, file management, and using email and web-based applications. Demonstrated experience in a commercial transportation environment, specifically in dispatch, delivery vehicle management, or related fleet service/maintenance operations. Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle high-stress situations professionally and calmly over the phone and two-way radio. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in resolving immediate operational problems in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in transportation and dispatch within a K-12 public education setting. Familiarity with school bus routing software is a plus. Compensation

$28.00 per hour
