Executive Assistant – City of San Diego
We are seeking an Executive Assistant to support City of San Diego Department Directors and other City executives. Responsibilities include arranging meetings, appointments, and itineraries; taking and typing minutes of meetings; composing and editing routine correspondence and assembling statistical reports; proofreading complex correspondence and reports; providing information and interpreting administrative policies and procedures for government officials, City Council, commission members, community organizations, and the public; supervising clerical subordinates; making travel arrangements and reservations for business travel and conference attendance; managing budget and financial matters; and performing other duties as assigned.
Experience & Qualifications
Three years of full-time clerical experience which MUST include a minimum of one year of full-time experience as a personal or private secretary/assistant.
Successful completion of a formalized (classroom) clerical training program consisting of a minimum of 520 hours of training, specifically in clerical or office procedures, may be substituted for one year of the required clerical experience, but cannot be substituted for the personal or private secretarial/assistant experience.
An Associate's Degree in Office Education‑Secretarial or a closely related program may be substituted for two years of the required clerical experience, but cannot be substituted for the personal or private secretarial/assistant experience.
City of San Diego employees using Out‑of‑Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.
The ability to type at a corrected speed of 50 words per minute on a computer keyboard is required.

Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
Executive Assistant positions may be required to work overtime occasionally.
