Job Summary
This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity and acceptability of specimens for testing by collecting specimens according to all established procedures and regulatory requirements while providing the best experience to the patient and parents. The Phlebotomist will perform pediatric phlebotomy, support core lab operations, and participate in Lean and quality improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Perform pediatric phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heel stick) and collect sweat chloride specimens for rapid testing. Identify patients, properly label specimen tubes, and determine priority of draws.
- Greet patients and parents, explain procedures at an age‑appropriate level, and obtain correct specimens according to established protocols.
- Operate and perform daily preventive maintenance on equipment, report malfunctions, and request service as needed.
- Maintain Lean principles, 5S, and inspection readiness; participate in tracers, mock inspections, regulatory reviews, and quality assurance meetings.
- Participate in inventory control, supply chain operations, and quality improvement opportunities.
- Perform clerical responsibilities and other duties or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 2 years of related experience (pediatric phlebotomy preferred).
- Lab experience collecting specimens for rapid testing and sweat chloride preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certified Phlebotomist, Certified Medical Assistant, EMT or equivalent 1‑year experience required.
