Vice President Alexion Corporate Affairs at AstraZeneca. Lead integrated global corporate affairs strategy to advance Alexion’s rare disease portfolio and reputation. Define, develop, and deliver a robust global corporate affairs strategy for rare disease, aligned with Alexion’s business priorities. Serve as a member of both the Alexion Leadership Team and CALT, ensuring corporate affairs objectives drive key business outcomes. Shape and champion Global Corporate Affairs initiatives and programmes critical to strategy delivery. Act as a business partner to the Alexion CEO in shaping overall business strategy and senior executive engagement plan/visibility. Lead and manage country and regional Corporate Affairs teams (markets) reporting into this role; align and develop market teams to deliver the strategy locally. Ensure seamless execution of global-local campaigns and market shaping across regions; promote continuous capability building and future-proofing of teams as reporting structures evolve. Lead policy and access advocacy globally, embedding policy goals into business plans and addressing capability gaps in priority markets. Drive strategic leadership for product and scientific communications, shaping messaging for diverse audiences including healthcare professionals, media, patient advocacy groups, government bodies, and the public. Oversee press releases, scientific updates, and media communications; ensure evidence-based, compliant messaging across indications and subgroups. Collaborate with medical affairs, regulatory, and patient advocacy colleagues to support business reputation. Strengthen local market scientific communication capabilities and align cross-functional teams on strategic messaging. Champion the use of AI and digital tools to enhance communications, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, and crisis management. Oversee global reputation management and local communications strategies; build and upskill capabilities within the Corporate Affairs organization. Build trusted external stakeholder relationships and advocate for policy shaping, capability development, and long-term business ambitions. Lead, coach, and inspire global, regional, and country-based Corporate Affairs professionals; foster diversity, equity, inclusion and robust change management. Oversee annual budgeting and resource stewardship; manage agency and vendor relationships with transparency and accountability. Key Requirements
At least 15 years’ experience in global or regional corporate affairs, ideally within pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or rare disease. Demonstrated success in budget planning, financial stewardship, and resource optimization across global or regional teams. Proven expertise in leveraging digital and AI-powered tools for strategic communications, analytics, and crisis management. Direct management experience of country and regional market teams in a complex, matrixed organization. Experience across major geographies (US, China, Europe) with strong executive-level partnership capabilities. Track record of establishing robust performance metrics, KPIs, and governance practices. Exceptional influencing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with ability to build trusted internal and external relationships. Resilience, agility, creativity, and resourcefulness; ability to drive innovation amid ambiguity and change. The annual base pay for this position ranges from $303,462 to $455,193. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime where applicable. Base pay offered may vary depending on factors including market location, knowledge, skills and experience. The role may include eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus, equity-based long-term incentives (salaried roles), retirement contributions (hourly roles), and commission where applicable.
