DIRECTOR, ENGINEERING (RAIL TRANSIT) at Los Angeles Metro Base pay range: $127,046.40/yr - $190,528.00/yr Description

The Director, Engineering oversees technical staff and consultants performing engineering and architectural design services related to large-scale transportation projects. This role includes: Manage the Westside Purple Line Extension Section 2 Project engineering design activities, including design issue resolution, change management, and design progress tracking/coordination. Collaborate with the design/build Contractor, affected municipalities, and external stakeholders to ensure implementation of applicable codes, standards, and project requirements. Manage Metro’s engineering consultants’ daily design activities during construction services. Recruitment Timelines

Oversee and manage large-scale engineering and architectural activities for major rail and bus projects to ensure regulatory compliance. Oversee the design, procurement, construction, and installation of major bus and rail facilities. Manage consultant contracts for design, construction, or procurement of facilities and systems equipment. Negotiate consultant and equipment contracts, including contract changes; oversee change control. Participate in the preparation of contract front-end documents. Direct feasibility studies, engineering reports, and economic analyses. Administer and monitor work and contracts for budget, schedule, standards, and objectives. Review consultants' plans and specifications for technical adequacy and completeness. Facilitate resolution of design, construction, third party, and operations problems. Recommend design activity improvements for efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Interface with Metro divisions; plan budget and staffing needs; assist in preparing department and project budgets. Represent Metro before outside agencies; prepare and present reports to management, staff, the Board of Directors, community groups, and government officials. Serve as chairperson for design reviews and other technical meetings. Direct, supervise, train, mentor, and motivate assigned staff; communicate and implement safety rules and procedures. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field Experience

Five years of relevant management-level experience as an engineer, architect, or Project Manager on major transit or public works projects, with at least two years in a specialized area of assignment. Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements

A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed California license as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect is preferred Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing design and construction of infrastructure capital projects with scope, schedule, and budget monitoring Experience analyzing Construction Contracts, Engineering Plans, Specifications, and Estimates Experience working with third parties including utilities, municipalities, public and private entities, and external stakeholders Experience enforcing public works, railway, and construction standards and regulations California registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable Essential Knowledge

Theories, principles, and practices of architectural, civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, or environmental engineering; hazardous waste regulations and environmental laws Applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations for environmental, engineering, and rail transit operations Project management and control practices Financial, analytical, and statistical methods; Metro policies and procedures Supervision principles; applicable business software Skill in
