Overview
Position Summary: We’re launching a highly automated, state-of-the-art perishable distribution center — designed as a pilot site for new commodities and processes. This role oversees the engineering aspects of installation, commissioning, and launch. You’ll be part of a fast-paced, innovative environment focused on transforming supply chain operations through automation and continuous improvement. This position is based on-site in Piles Grove, NJ, with travel expected up to 30%. Responsibilities
Process Flow Design: interpret information to quantify the anticipated outcome of supply chain decisions, describing typical tasks with suppliers, inbound/outbound logistics, and basic logistical processes using business process design tools and techniques. Operational Excellence: explain operational functions and key functional roles, clarify the role of each department or unit, and describe the interdependence of support functions. Engineering Economics: describe concepts behind engineering economics and implications of financial data, understand cost drivers, identify major types of financial data, and explain how it is used in engineering. Project Management: plan and estimate simple projects under guidance, produce standard project status reports, obtain information from stakeholders during planning, and assist in detailed project plans including costs, schedules, and resource requirements. Vendor Management: manage site installation, budgets (including POs), site safety standards, and project schedule to achieve milestones. Continuous Improvement: define critical workflows for executing key processes, identify and prioritize process problems, and implement CI methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen. Automation System Design: promote automation machinery usage, participate in implementation and training, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and monitor actual vs. planned performance. Automation Integration: combine knowledge of automation/system design with learnings from previous implementations to guide roadmaps and resolve integration issues. Mechatronics: create views of objects in 2D/3D, produce perspective drawings and orthogonal views, assist in drafting, and participate in projects modifying electrical systems, equipment, and components including design, testing, implementation, monitoring, and repair of mechanical components. Data and Digital Literacy: leverage data analysis tools to explore moderately complex data, develop/test hypotheses, and use data to influence strategic work. Advanced Analytics: apply data analysis and modeling to establish and maintain data structures and use computing languages/tools in machine learning (e.g., R, Python). Qualifications
Strong communication skills with the ability to influence effectively—confidence, credibility, and concise, organized thoughts. Ability to collaborate while establishing credibility, analyze stakeholder needs, and respond effectively and efficiently. Demonstrable business acumen and ownership of project activity. Experience defining strategies for implementing and launching automation technologies, identifying testing opportunities, building robust testing criteria, and validating implementation accuracy. Experience developing and implementing large-scale automation technology for greenfield sites to enhance operational efficiencies, OEE, and productivity. Experience implementing efficiencies and best practices in Perishable Automation Distribution Centers. Engineering background to help speed delivery and quality of products to customers. Experience establishing, influencing, and managing high-visibility stakeholder relationships. Supply chain or warehouse automation experience, preferably with exposure to construction environments, and strong project management skills to coordinate between engineering, construction, and cross-functional teams. Technical background in controls automation (including robotics) and expertise in design and development of controls from concept through commissioning. Preferred: 1–3 years of engineering, construction, and/or automation design/implementation; experience in supply chain fulfillment or distribution; ASRS systems is a bonus. Self-starter, driven by ambiguity and continuous improvement, seeking new impactful automation methods to develop and implement. Proven ability to take technologies from prototype to production, building a roadmap of capabilities including development, testing, and deployment of automation technologies at large scale. Compensation and Benefits
