Overview
AVP Senior Property Underwriter at Ryan Specialty. The Senior Property Underwriter is responsible for overseeing and managing property business workflows, providing technical expertise, and ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines. The role develops strategies for new business opportunities and portfolio retention and contributes to achieving business targets. They cultivate long-term broker relationships and support training for new staff in underwriting processes.
What will your job entail?
Oversees and strategically manages workflows for new property business and renewals, with advanced professionalism and adherence to underwriting guidelines.
Evaluates, prioritizes, and selects submissions and prices risks to achieve underwriting profit; refers or declines risks that present excessive risk.
Drives risk assessment, evaluating coverage value, location, usage, safety features, and other factors to decide on risk acceptance.
Determines appropriate coverage limits, premiums, and policy terms based on risk assessment; actively manages a portfolio of complex property accounts.
Negotiates terms with brokers, identifies cross-sell opportunities, and ensures compliance with regulations and guidelines.
Develops strategic initiatives to create new business opportunities and maximize retention of assigned portfolios, contributing to business targets.
Manages internal and external relationships to deliver superior customer service; develops professional broker/agent relationships within delegated authority.
Partners with underwriting teams to foster communication and optimize task coordination across the underwriting process.
Provides accurate premium forecasts and business plans; contributes to budgeting and performance target achievement.
Optimizes underwriting processes, introduces new technologies, and aligns the department with organizational goals; delivers training for new underwriters on guidelines, processes, and systems.
Stays abreast of property and casualty underwriting trends, emerging risks, and regulatory changes; adjusts underwriting strategies accordingly.
Work Experience And Education
Minimum of 8 years of experience in Property Underwriting.
Bachelor’s degree required; Risk Management, Actuarial, or Business Administration preferred. Other related discipline or commensurate experience considered.
Licenses & Certifications
Prescribed: Must meet minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses.
Preferred: CPCU, CIC; experience underwriting manufacturing risks; existing wholesale broker relationships.

The target salary range for this position is $164,800.00 - $206,000.00 annually.
