Overview
Senior Geologist / Scientist I – Upstream Focus. This position provides project management and technical leadership of environmental investigation, remediation and litigation projects in the upstream oil and gas space and assists in the development of technical staff to meet client and organizational needs. Essential Duties
Project Management:
Manage projects including scheduling and coordination of project resources to meet client and organizational needs. Ensure that task schedules, budgets, and client invoicing are performed in accordance with Company standards and client requirements to complete project work. Technical Data Review and Report Preparation:
Provide in-depth scientific analyses supporting expert testimony for litigation; evaluate complex technical issues in dispute during litigation; support formulating expert opinions for reports, depositions and trial; investigations of private, commercial and industrial properties; coordinate and provide quality control for data collection and review of project results, including reduction of field data to evaluate and determine future client needs and project requirements; interpret data, develop, and finalize a report for Project Principal’s review that appropriately documents findings and project remediation recommendations. Proposal Preparation and Business Development:
Assist with the preparation of proposals, cost estimates, and with marketing activities. Staff Mentoring and Training:
Participate in the development of junior staff and work with senior management to grow as a consultant and leader of the firm. Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in relevant technical field. Minimum of 10-15+ years of environmental consulting experience. Professional certification as applicable (P.G./P.E., etc.), or in absence of certification, a minimum of 7 years working with a licensed professional in the applicable discipline. Demonstrated expertise in upstream oil and gas remediation regulations specific to Texas, New Mexico, and/or Louisiana, including practical experience navigating regulatory frameworks such as the Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) and New Mexico OCD, with a proven track record of applying regulatory knowledge to site assessment, corrective action planning, and closure strategies. Proficient in senior level interpretation work including remedial cost estimates, future remedial measures selection, and costing. Experience designing and managing site/remedial investigation activities and performing hydrogeologic interpretation and development of conceptual site models. Demonstrated project management skills. Ability to evaluate/prioritize large amounts of information and advanced data evaluation and analytical skills. Proficient written and verbal communication skills; experience interacting with clients and regulatory agencies. Ability and willingness to support the technical growth of project/staff level professionals based on direct hands-on interactions. Preferred
Experience supporting environmental litigation projects, including preparation of expert reports, deposition support, data analysis for liability or cost allocation, and collaboration with legal teams on CERCLA, RCRA, or state-level enforcement actions. Knowledge of Bates numbering and advanced file management/tracking; field experience under litigation scrutiny; experience writing or co-authoring professional publications. Physical Demands / Work Environment
This position occasionally works in the field and predominantly works in an office environment. In the field, the candidate will be leading a larger team at exterior project sites to perform sample collection, recording of operational parameters, and oversight of subcontractors. These field activities require the ability to drive to different project sites and move around outdoors in various terrains and occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
