We offer a hybrid 3‑2 work schedule (three days in the office, two days of teleworking) to accommodate the need for flexibility.

Job Summary Dominion Energy is seeking a Consulting Engineer to join the ET Operational Engineering Support – Traditional Equipment Team within Electric Transmission. This position offers the opportunity to contribute as a technical and project leader within multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, providing strategic guidance across engineering disciplines, sections, and major projects.

The ideal candidate will apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex engineering challenges and lead the planning and coordination of large‑scale initiatives requiring broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Responsibilities include delivering expert‑level consultation and assessments, advising management on intricate engineering issues, and managing technical, financial, and service commitments to both internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, the role may involve conducting independent research to develop innovative and cost‑effective solutions to operational problems.

The candidate will provide technical support for Dominion Energy Electric Transmission Operations, focusing on transformers, from inception, to operation, to decommissioning, and (when applicable) root cause analyses (RCA). As novel challenges arise, the candidate develops the necessary knowledge base and engineering capabilities to address them.

Job Responsibilities

Equipment supplier relationship building & maintenance, provide support to ensure production capacity is maintained for Dominion Energy's requirements, and strive to mitigate supplier lock‑in

Develop & document design requirements of major substation equipment and maintain with Annual reviews

Perform design reviews and factory acceptance tests (FATs) of equipment while in production for domestic and international suppliers

Analyze & support the qualification of new suppliers of equipment

Provide support to the equipment procurement processes

Support Dominion field organizations in:

responses to equipment emergencies

material specification

design validation and innovation

root cause analysis (RCAs) of failure events

commissioning & decommissioning

develop training and/or guidelines to support field organizations’ maintenance and response to system events relating to substation equipment

Support the development, and demonstration of leading‑edge tools, technologies, and applications to maintain Dominion's leadership position in the industry.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that are required for entry into this job include the following:

3+ years of experience in manufacturing, with knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems.

10+ years of relevant engineering experience; an Engineering PhD can be substituted for up to 5 years of experience based on research engineering work on directly related projects approved by executive leadership.

Extensive knowledge of engineering theories, principles, and practices to a broad variety of assignments and related field.

Knowledge of business/financial and contractual matters.

Provides expert technical advice to other engineers and management in assigned area.

Strong planning and project management skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing).

Proven decision‑making skills.

Demonstrated ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Proven time management, work planning and organizational skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and other Office 365 applications.

A working knowledge of SAP software is preferred.

Equally effective working independently or in a team environment.

Dedicated to continuous improvement and identifying best practices.

Experience with using SharePoint application platform for information exchange.

Knowledge of transformer design, manufacturing, and operation.

Education Requirements Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):

Bachelor’s

Preferred Discipline(s): Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering

Engineering Criteria

Possess a 4‑year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Possess a 4‑year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or

Possess a 4‑year degree in Engineering (non‑ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post‑graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET‑accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or

Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Qualifications A professional engineer license is preferred but not required.

Other Working Conditions Please note that this role will require domestic & international travel up to 25% to ensure oversight of suppliers. Some work may require field visits. Dominion Energy will work with you to ensure you have the appropriate personal protective equipment for any site visits.

Candidate will report to Innsbrook office, which has an on‑site gym, and cafeteria.
